Composing Music
John, Johnny B., Bushell was classically trained as a child and influenced by jazz, rock, and pop. His composing and performance passion urged him to attend the Berklee College of Music in the late 70s.
Johnny B. moved to Alaska in 1981 and has been composing music about the wild lands, waterways and wildlife ever since. The dynamic range of his pieces from atmospheric to boogie woogie delight all. |
Since 1979, Johnny B. has been bringing his performance Rhythm of the North and outreach programs to communities throughout North America. "I hope my music recreates the emotional response of experiencing nature and fills you with joy!"

In 1981 Johnny B. settled in Alaska where he finds his greatest inspiration from the aesthetics of nature. During the summer months, he performs and composes new material in his home, Homer, Alaska, located alongside the beautiful Kachemak Bay.
During the fall and spring, Johnny B.'s RHYTHM OF THE NORTH program is performed in community halls and performing arts centers throughout North America. The Rhythm of the North is a celebration of our mountains, waterways and wildlife. It includes a segment about the life cycle of salmon and a visual and musical reminder of the grandeur of our icefields and glaciers.
As guide, Johnny B. takes the audience on a tour of his home… Alaska… and many of its natural wonders. He has served as midwife for a shark and weed whacker of the United States – Canada border.
The Rhythm of the North is filled with award-winning videography, photography, Alaska stories and all original music composed by Johnny B.

Johnny B.'s performance goes far outside the bounds of a musical performance. It is a wonderful story of a life committed to the outdoors, education and music. It is fun, entertaining and moving. The footage of wilderness scenes is spectacular and the accompanying compositions add even more. Johnny B. is a passionate performer, but he is wise enough to let the wilderness and Alaska deliver their own powerful message.
